Welcome to the Pequod blog — the place where we'll share updates, release notes, and the occasional deep-dive into self-hosted streaming.
What is Pequod?
Pequod is a self-hosted media server in two parts:
- Pequod Core — a control room we host for you (or you can run it yourself). Browse your library, manage users, and read your stats from any browser.
- Pequod Harpoon — a small service you run next to your media files. It scans your folders, announces your catalog to Core, and streams directly to your screen.
Your files stay home. You go anywhere.
Why we built it
Every existing solution makes you choose between convenience and ownership. Hosted services are easy but your library depends on their servers. Self-hosted alternatives are powerful but painful to set up and maintain.
Pequod tries to be the third option: we run the hard part (the control room), you run the easy part (a single binary next to your files), and neither of us ever touches your actual video.
